Hello all, I'm from Singapore and I've had some problems with my rabbit. When I fed it a diet of only pellets and nuts, it always had an excess of cecotropes, which led to a messy backside and unpleasant cage. However, it always showed to my family that it was happy through binkys and flopping over beside me. So I've changed its diet to alot of hay and a few pellets here and there. However now, the binkys have stopped, and it no longer seems like it was as happy as it was last time. He's always in the 'meatload' position in the cage, and rarely lies on his stomach now. He does occasionally come out and lets me pet him, but I'm scared that he hates me. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance cheers :)

Hi there!

While your bunny may love the taste of pellets and nuts, that's not the best diet for him/her.
Hay is extremely important to feed your bunny to help with digestion and pooping habits.

Here are some articles from the Rabbit Society that may help you with the portions of what you should (highly suggested!) feed your rabbit!:

Fresh vegetables may help your bunny feel happy too! They really love leafy green vegetables.

I hope that helps! :rabbithop

Thanks for the reply bud :) but I'm worried what will happen as my rabbit just doesn't seem as active as it was before. Is this because of the sudden diet change? I've given him a different pellet to stop the excess cecotropes from coming out of him.

What type of pellets?

And yes, any and all changes puts stress on the rabbit - they are very much creatures of habit. You might want to wait a few days to see if your rabbit gets used to the pellets. As long as they eat the hay then their diet will be okay. Happy binkies come and go so I wouldn't worry; only if you rabbit stops eating!

Also, your bunny is not used to eating hay all day, so be careful about gut stasis. Introduce everything bits at a time and you may have a happier and healthier bunny!
