I have a 3 week old kit who started to have some eye gunk two days ago. Every 6 hours or so he/she needs some warm water on a cloth to get the eye open again.
Would a little antibiodic ointment or Terramycin ointment help, or is that not safe? I have done that with kittens in the past, these are my first baby bunnies.
The eye lid looks pretty angry this evening & the eye ball is a little cloudy. (Fur wet in pictures from just holding a compress to get the eye open)

I used terramycin on my rabbit and it worked. Its listed on the Three Little Ladies rabbitry site as one of the things to put in your rabbit medicine cabinet so other people must use it too. http://www.threelittleladiesrabbitry.com/medicinechest.php
Just a little warning, Since the terramycin is in a oily base, after you use it the fur around your rabbits eye will be stuck down and that will make it look as if it suddenly got worse, but once you stop using it the fur will fluff up again and look normal.

Also, after two days if its not any better or looks any worse I would go straight to the vet.

It looks and sounds like nestbox eye. First things first is to clean the box that the kits are in. Once kits are born you should remove any afterbirth in the bedding and then we clean the dirty spots or change the bedding at about a week of age.

Here's some info on it. Apparently some people believe it's genetic if they have a real big occurance but It looks like the rabbit should be checked out by a vet first before treating. And the rabbit may always have a haze over that eye when it grows up

Let us know how your bunny is doing, curious to know if terramycin worked for you.

Thanks all! I did clean the nest/cage but did it again and after a couple days of hot compress and Terrmycin the bun is great!
