Hi,

I'm trying to adopt out a adult/female/spayed medium sized Californian.

The potential adopters have a smaller lion-head male who is not neutered that we would bond her with.

The owners say he is not aggressive, gets along with their cats and doesn't hump things. The boy has never met a girl bunny though.

So what do you think? Is it a good idea or bad idea? :anyone:

It really depends on how he reacts when meeting her. If he is a fully mature male bun, and yet isn't constantly pestering her with humping, then it could possibly work out. Usually the reason it wouldn't is because male rabbits are so hormonal, they are constantly wanting to hump the other bun, which in turn often causes the other rabbit to become irritated and lash out, which may result in fighting. You could let them meet and see how they both react, and just keep a close eye out for any signs of aggression as you want to split them up if it seems like they may fight so no bun gets injured. It can sometimes be helpful to let them first meet through cage or panel bars, to see what their initial reaction will be, still being careful if they can bite the other bun through the bars. Also you want to make sure to do this in neutral territory in an area that neither bun has been in at all recently.

You can never really know until you put them together. Two perfectly sweet rabbits might despise one other at first sight and try to maul each other immediately.

Bonding a fixed & not-fixed pair together is possible, it's just more unlikely and harder compared to if both were fixed. I'd make sure they of course had multiple bonding sessions and be prepared with some heavy duty gloves and a spray bottle. :goodluck
