It does look like an abscess. Make sure your friend goes to a vet who sees lots of rabbits in their practice. Otherwise it will be a waste of money. A good vet is one of the most important things you'll ever do for a bunny.

"In most cases of abscess, the rabbit has a history of pasteurellosis, though other bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus sp., Pseudomonas sp or Fusiformis sp. are no exceptions. They often result from a nasolacrimal or tooth problem, surgery, insect bites, scratches or skin wound, trauma, or a foreign body such as a hay splinter in the gum, foot sole or anal gland."

Rabbit abscesses are different from other animals and generally lancing and draining doesn't work. They are most successfully removed by surgically removing the abscess capsule completely and a bit of the surrounding tissue.

Good luck!!

she took him to the vet yesterday and they cleaned it all out and gave him a penicillin shot, they told her to soak his foot in a water medicine mix every day for a week. she has another vet app next tuseday. they said it was from him laying on his side then flipping up and cutting it on the wire floor so she is going to get a mat to place where he lays in his cage.
