One of my rabbits has begun to make a lot of little squeaky noises. What could this indicate? She is eating and drinking normally. Thank you for any info!

just sitting there she makes squeaking noises?..i know ive heard my buns make noise when their eating, getting love, hormonal males,or playing...but just sitting there is kinda weird..is she having a hard time breathing?.

Well, I "studied" her a lot today. She was making the noises when she was eating. They sound sort of like a dog whimpering. Then, when she laid down, she made the noise every time she exhaled. I thought about her having some sort of breathing issue but she acts perfectly normal and, tonight, she wasn't making the noises at all. I'm not sure what it sounds like when they grind their teeth. Not sure I've ever heard it! I know that's supposed to indicate they're happy, right? The only other time I've heard noises like this is when her grandmother was pregnant and was being chased by another rabbit. But the circumstances are entirely different.

rabbits can and do make some noises,,--that given any change in weight,-and/or behavior can be the only first signs you get of an underlying problem,..i strongly recommend an exotic dvm specialist,,,exams generally about $50.00-ask when making an appointment-asap--//.prey animals would rather die than express illness-to a predator//just the way it is,...sincerely james waller:pray:

Spike makes a lot of funny noises when he is grooming himself, especially if he looks like he's trying out for a stunt double in the "Exorcist". He also grinds his teeth when we rub him.
i love this picture,,this rabbit is one heck of a character,//.my white rabbit-snowball-does the dead bunny flop--it scares the you know what out of me,,and i am sure my heart stops...until i see him move,...sincerely james waller:big wink:

When rabbits grind their teeth gently, it's like a tooth purr- it means they are very content but if it is a loud tooth grinding then this means they are in pain.

That's quite strange. In your situation I think I would take her to the vets, because although it could be a content sound, it could be a sign she is in pain. Especially if it sounds similar to the 'scared' noises your other rabbit made.

Does she sit hunched up at all? Any change in behaviour? Any change in appetite or poops?

As you said she has only started doing this then I would be inclined to take it as a 'change' in behaviour and take her to the vets just to be on the safe side

At this point, I have decided to just keep a close eye on her because she is acting perfectly normal in every way and because I just spent almost a thousand dollars on two of my other buns last week! The vets around here charge $72 for an exam - that is, IF you've had the bunny there before (which I haven't) and more if you haven't. They charged me $90 for baytril!!!!!!!! I haven't heard her making the noises recently so I think I'm going to wait and see. Thank you one and all for your caring advice.
