I think our hamster enjoys nesting with the hay rather than actually eating it, but she does enjoy the seed heads.

Ours, too!!

He really loves it. Everytime I get the bag of hay for the bunnies, he comes crawling out to get his share.

Sounds like your doing a great job hamster-sitting, Varna!

The dried grass should be fine, just make sure there aren't any hard pieces (like straw) that might hurt his little mouth pouches.

hi there all

had to take smarty to the vets

he was given 4 drops on the bk of his neck and also

baytrill antibiotics

as when we got him he seemed to have a nasty skin infection

took him to our vets and he had mites and mange

poor little hammy but hopefiuly his fur will start to come bk

his owners didnt take him to see a vet

as they thought it was just a sign of old age

It sounds like you're doing the right things.

I'm glad you took Smartie to the vet so he could get started on some treatments.
Mange/mites are treatable and in-themselves are notlife threatening conditions. However it could be an indication of an underlying issue.
Keep an eye on him and call the vet if he doesn't seem to be improving.

Do his owners know?

this may be wrong but when we buy shavings andhay it says like what animals can have and it says hamsters shouldn'thave hay so i don't give mine hay:?
