English Spot

The English Spot is generally white, with markings in black, blue, chocolate, gold, gray, lilac or tortoise (mixed orange/dark grey). The markings are a "butterfly" on the nose, circles around the eyes, dark ears, a "racing stripe" down the back, a spot on each cheek, and spots sweeping down from the shoulders down each side toward the tail.

English Spots have an ideal adult weight of 5-8 pounds.

Note: Similar-looking breeds include:

  • Checkered Giant: much larger (11-12 pounds), and the side spots are in two groups toward the rear of the body, not sweeping down from the shoulders
  • Rhinelander: back is less curved, markings are mixed black/orange, fewer side spots arranged more toward the hindquarters rather than sweeping down from shoulders.
