Hi guys, I was reading up on litters and found this website: Rabbit Bedding. It says to "Ignore the cedar and pine brouhaha over liver enzymes and respiratory issues." And then goes on quoting an assesment by a woman named Ms. Corinne Fayo, telling readers that pine is perfectly safe AND the ONLY UNTREATED CEDAR should be avoided. Im confused now, are they wrong? Are we wrong? I've always stayed away from pine and of course cedar and im thinking about using aspen, but im not sure (that's the reason I was reading up). What do you think? I say theyre crazy :p

Alot of people say Kiln dried pine is okay, never used it or experimented with it so thats all I can say.

All soft woods (ever green trees) leach some oils, some more then others (cedar) which can cause issues in our pets (and even ourselves). Pine doesnt show issues as quickly as cedar might but some people get away with using cedar with no issues. Why risk it though? Just stick to hard woods, better safe then sorry.

I use aspen, $10.50 for a 4 cubic foot bale at Petsmart lasts me ages.

Yeah I have never used pine for any my pets. Before Smudge I had a Teddy Bear Hamster, then a hedgehog. With my hamster I started with Aspen then switched to Critter Care (like Care Fresh) rom Walmart and never went back.

Most vets and specialist will warn pine and cedar cause respiratory problems, to me it is not worth the risk.

Thank you for replying! Im starting to notice there is a lot of back and forth info on bunny care, Im sticking just to RO from now on to be sure :D
I just bought that same $10.50 bale hehe. I've been using critter care too, but even that cheap walmart stuff is getting to expensive for my college student lifestyle. And Bonkers is getting hormonal on me, (he is making circles around my feet as I type this) so he is being specially stinky, I need to change the litter every other day. I'll see how he takes the change.
