Hello all!
We have a very handsome male Rex named Maymi who is almost a year old and intact. He recently started circling our legs (mine and my husbands). I read an article that stated it was courting/mating behavior but am confused as to why he seems to prefer circling my husbands legs if that's the case? Any insight is appreciated
Thanks in advance!

As you said, that is most probably the coarse of your rabbit's behaviour, but I don't think he can tell the difference between a male human and a female, but I may be wrong. If your bunny seems stressed or disturbed, purchasing him a rabbit sized stuffed toy or chew toy, which he may enjoy, just make sure these items are 100% rabbit friendly. He will probably grow out of this behaviour, but if you are worried, contact a rabbit specialist or do some further research. I hope this helps!

A hormonal rabbit will circle / hump anything that moves (or not). He would also try to mount a male rabbit or a stuffed cow if he had the chance. Believe me, there is zero thinking process involved here, he is just reacting to hormones. As long as it's only circling and that it doesn't bother you you can leave it - circling is the most innocuous thing an intact rabbit can do. But if you see any other hormonal behavior (spraying, humping, biting, growling...) you might want to think about neutering him and doing it before those delightful habits set in.

Thanks everyone! So far it's just the circling, we are planning on having him fixed soon. It's incredible how different each rabbit is! We had an intact male before Maymi and he never acted like this, he thumped occasionally but that was it.

Circling is usually a sign of courting behavior, but it can also be when a rabbit is excited about something such as when it is feeding time, it wants attention/petting, or is just happy to see you. Though circling is more common with intact rabbits, fixed rabbits may do it as well, so neutering may not completely stop the behavior.

JBun, thank you for the additional insight! He was overly excited that evening and very playful. Perhaps it was just his mood that day haha.
