I was given this huge really nice cage. It has all kinds of extras attached, brand new it was probably awesome, but it's been outside for a while and is in rough shape. I think I can't bleach it as far as disinfecting right?
But my big concern is the metal bars are rusty. He doesn't usually put his mouth on the bars of his but he stands up on them a lot. Is there anything at all I can do for that that will ever make it safe for my bun to be in?

If the metal is rusting then the galvanizing has come off. You can also use a wire brush to get the rust off. You could soak it in vinegar & rinse, or spray it with 10% bleach solution, rinse and let it dry.

Thanks. I discovered how amazing vinegar is when I got my rabbits, I should have known that would be the solution lol. Should I think about trying to repaint it or something with pet safe paint? Or just get the rust off and leave it be?
