As a lot of you know my babies are only 4 weeksold! Daisy has made a new nest but theres no babies! I'm worried thatnow that she isabout to have morebabiesagain:shock:! What about the ones she has? How willthey be with them? They are too young to leave Mum yet! Please help!

It's only been 5 mins but nobody is online! I'mreally panicking - Pam you said that she might be pregnant again, butas I took Buster out straight away I thought I'd caught them in time! The last thing I wanted was for her to have more -Havingbabiesis lovely but I feel its not fair on my Daisy! Will shebe ok having them so soon together? If only I knew that Buster was abuck before she got pregnant I could have got him done straight away!

My friends rabbit had babies on a Tuesday and exactly 5 or 6 weeks later she had another litter of 9. It is possible I think.

How long was Buster with Daisy after she had the babies?

If she is pregnant, she'll be fine. By the time the othersare born you can take the others out. At 4 weeks, they aren'told enough to be away from their mother. Many petstores sellat 3-4 weeks old, so they can survive, if you can get them baby bunnyfeed/starter feed. Heinold makes a starter feedforrabbits.

Carolyn - As soon as We found the babies in themorning we took Buster out, so if she had them in the night (as I haveheard they do quite alot) I suppose it is possible that they could havemated again. If she has the babies tonight will the newborns be ok withthe older ones? As if possible I would like to keep them with theirmummy as long a possible.

Thanks for replying

Vickie

Hi Vickie,

It's possible that she's pregnant. Usuallyrightafter a doe has a baby, she doesn't want to be bothered with breedingthat night, but it's certainly possible. She could be justbuilding a nest.

You should remove the 4 weeks old and get the baby bunny starterfood. Keep an eye on the nest so that you can remove the'older babies' asap. It's not ideal that the current babiesare without the care of the mom, but they can make it.

As Carolyn mentioned, the second litter will be fine if the doe kindlesagain. I would remove them as Carolyn suggested and add asprinkling of milk pellets over their feed (such as calf manna).

Thanks Carolyn - Just one last question. It isgetting late in UK now and our local pet shops will be closing. Willthey be ok for tonight as I don't have a spare hutch as Buster is usingit? The babies wont attack the newborns will they? I keep checking herand she is rather quiet actually (not sure if I'm being paranoid :D)shes lay down with the babies around her. Do you think I should pickher up and feel around to see if i can feel anything or leave her alone?

Thanks again

Vickie

Ps just realised that wasnt one question it was 3! :D

Pamnock is better able to respond to the lastseries of questions than I am. Some does tend to go off theirfeed the day they have the babies. That's one of the signsthat the time is coming soon. You could certainly lift herand feel down by her abdomen to see if it feels like she's got marblesrolling around in there.

You're having a baby soon too??

That's some breeding ground you've got goin on there, Kiddo!!

Thanks Pam - Them milk pellets are they available inordinary pet stores or will I have do get them from a specialist?

All these babies :DIt's funny as my baby is due next week too! I will be a very busy mummy!

Congrats on *your* upcoming baby!

You may have to mail order the milk pellets from a rabbit equipmentsupplier. Most feed stores have them, but only sell them in#50. I don't use that much, so I special order #25 lb. bagsthrough the feed store.

You may be able to feel the babies, as Carolyn mentioned, by placingyour hand underneath her abdomen. They usually feel likerather hard "bumps". Our does normally don't go off theirfeed unless they are packed tightly with babies (leaving no room foreating LOL).

Hee Hee I've certainly got my work cut out!:DIt's a good job i've got my partner around as he's beenbrilliant with the babies (especially when I accidently let one out ofthe hutch and he was on his hands and knees trying to catch him! Butthats another story:D!) Mind you our daughter has been reallygood (well as good as two year olds can be!)!Shes lovedlooking after her baby bunnies- has me going out the second she homefrom nursery to feed them! Thanks for all you support everyone!!

Have read down all the posts. If the doehas pulled more fur and made another nest it is likely she will haveanother litter. Do not worry though, the kits will dofine. By now I am sure they have been eating mom's food aswell as nursing and hopfully have also been drinking mom's water aswell. They do need to be removed from the cage though as shemay kill the new ones to protect them from the older ones, but sinceshe didn't do it to the first litter and the buck was still in thecage, she probably won't, but they can't staytogether. You will have to get another cage for theolder kits, but for now a cardboard box with sides high enough so theycan't jump out will be fine. Gve them some of mom's food anda crock or low cup for water. At 4 weeks they will eat anddrink just fine. I have weaned a litter before at 4 weeks dueto an accidental rebreeding and all were just fine on regularpellets. Keep us up to date. Donna

Morning everyone! Still no more babies this morning - Me andDaisyhave had a good bond this morning. She was lay quitecontently on my bump for quiet some time :)!I had a good feel aroundand there are definatly babies in there. I'm going out to Pets at Hometoday and getting a new hutch for the babies as well as the babystarter food and anything else I may need!

Many thanks to everyone and I'll keep you all posted to the new arrivals! :D

Good Morning, Vickie, :)

At 4-6 weeks old, the little ones will probably spend most of theirtime out outside of the nestbox. They're eating solid foods anddrinking water. They still will attempt nursing from the mother if theycan.

I'm sure they'll not have a single want in the world with you there to become surrogate mother for the next couple of weeks.

Hope you find good homes for them all.

Delphinum,

Don't even think about going back to Manchester!

Thanks Carolyn! :DYeah my little onesare out of the nest 90% of the time now. When the weathers nice theylike to spend it in the out door part of the hutch. Its always shadedin our back so we have no problems with them getting sun stroke! We'vegot all our stuff now so I'm going to get them organised into their newhutches. They are eating and drinking on their own so I'm sure theywill do just fine.

Theres only one thing that I'm bothered about finding them good homes! My sister is having 2 females but thats another 4 homes I need to findand then however many babies I have. Our local petshop is very goodthey gave me lots of advice (all of which I've had from you guys!!:D)They said if I was struggling then they wouldfind them goodhomes for me when they are over 8 weeks!

Anyway we're going to sort the little unsout now and I will be back on later!
