Comments: She has taken excellent care of my two rabbits and has taken a great deal of time to educate me about bunnies when I had my first one. She is committed to the care of well being of animals; double checks all dosages and is never hesitant to call a specialist when the need arises. She treats exotics, but also readily acknowledges her limitations.

Comments: I take both of my rabbits to her and would never use anyone else. She is wonderful to them, loves and cares about them.

Comments: (Simpsonville is between Greenville and Spartanburg--convenient to both places). Dr. Wheat was initially recommended to us by the Fund for Animals Rabbit Sanctuary (located in Simpsonville, SC) because she is their vet. Over the past few years we have visited her with four rescued rabbits and various species of other small rescued animals (small mammals and reptiles) and have always been pleased with her compassionate care. She has performed many surgeries for our animals ranging from rabbit neuters (and a chinchilla neuter) to mammary tumor removals (on female rats) to a rabbit leg amputation. She will consult with other vets and she spends a lot of time researching cases when she does not have immediate answers; she is very, very dedicated to helping animals. She has told us several times that although she sees mostly cats and dogs that she truly enjoys her exotic patients and that rabbits are her favorite.

And, the followinglist is from the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians: (Please be sure that vets on this listtreat rabbits and not just birds or reptiles).

Again, please post any additions, commentsor updates in this thread.

Thanks!

Hip Hop is 12 years old and I took him to Dr. Hoppmann , Elgin Veterinary Hospital for some teeth problems and general issues of an older rabbit. So far I'm very pleased with Dr. Hoppmann and her staff. I believe we have found a very good veterinarian! I live in Sumter South Carolina so it is a bit of a drive, 40 miles from our home , 8 from my work. I was unable to find a good rabbit vet in Sumter. If you have an emergency over the weekend Dr. Michelle M. Turner, SC veterinary emergency care , located in Columbia, SC is also very good with rabbits! About 4 months ago Hip Hop had bladder stones and a herniated bladder, Dr. Turner did a fine job on his surgery and he is looking good today! Love our rabbits with each passing year the bond gets stronger! Peace Out , Brent and Sharon
