Hi I have a 5 year old lop. This is our second rabbit and we have never had this problem before....We have always used unscented kitty litter in his small triangle litter boxand cover it with pine or aspen shavings, with critter care underneath his cage flooring. He has had a slightly runny nose for a long time (it is clear) but I am wondering if it is the materials in his cage that are bothering him. He doesn't stay in the cage very much only in the evening when we are sleeping and of course to use the litter box. Am I hurting him with this set up?

Thx

That is great advice, but what do I use instead? I have heard that if bunnies dig in those corn based litters, or paper litters and eat it that it causes problems....This is why I am confused

I've used about everything out there.

I've had up to 8 house rabbits at the same time (currently have 5).

My preference is wood pellets....specifically Woody Pet :biggrin2:.
There's lots of similar wood pellet products sold as horse bedding.

Other suitable wood pellet products are; Feline Pine, Kaytee, wood stove pellets.

DO NOT use any kind of kitty litter (except Feline Pine).
DO NOT use any product that contains cedar.

Some of the other items I've used (without complete satisfaction):

Care Fresh
Yesterdays News
Kiln dried wood shavings (aspen)
In a pinch I've used shredded newspaper.

Here's the RO Library link that's all about litter
