Hello!
How much alfalfa hay I should provide to my 4 month old bun?

He has constant access to timothy, oat, and organic meadow hay, all of which he eats. But he definitely favors his alfalfa hay, which I give him in small handfuls at least once a day.

I took him to his first vet visit today to be neutered (fingers crossed all goes well ...), and the vet cautioned me about too much alfalfa.

But I have read online that young rabbits can have unlimited alfalfa.

How much is a safe amount to give a 4 month old, and when should I start cutting back on how much I give him?

Generally one transitions completely off of alfalfa hay by 6 months. It is good that he is eating other types of hay right now because that will make the transition easier.

That is also the age when his pellet food should be switched from alfalfa-based to timothy-based. That is best done by mixing the old with the new over a period of days.
