Hello everyone. I just bought a coupleof rabbits, last Thursday. I had never had rabbits beforenow. I had never even contemplated it. Most peopledon't mention rabbits as a common household pet, atleast from where Icome from in America. My girlfriend who is from Taiwan, saidthat she had had a couple of rabbits growing up, and that she reallylikes them. So I thought, why not? I'm not allowedto have pets that make noise, and rabbits don't make noise, soeverything was kosher.

Before getting the rabbits, Sofia and I went to buy all the necessitiesfrom the local supersized pet store. We got a cage, a litterbox, a grass feeding appartatus, a set of 6 green cubic-shaped snaptogether floor covers, food and all of that. We set up afence using the shelving from a stand alone wardrobe closet that I usedat my previous apartment. They like to jump through theopenings. I think they enjoy doing that. They get asense of their designated area and my area. We call theirarea, Rabbit Country.

We picked them up from the night market last Thursday.Apparently, Buddy (the big rabbit) is atleast part 'Lop', but I wonderif he is a cross between a 'Lop' and a 'Lionhead'. I washoping someone here might be able to shine some light on hislineage. He has more facial hair than the 'Lop' pictures thatI've seen on the internet.

Buddy is a bit of a bully at 3 months old, but a very cute and playfulbully. He just demands that you understand how cute and thatyou play with him all the time. Both of them are very highenergy. Skids is only a month old, so he acts very much likeI would assume most baby rabbits act - he will sit and let you pet himtill his fur falls off. He loves attention just like Buddy, just a bit more docile.

Maybe you can take a look at the website Sofia made of both of them, and you can tell me what kind of rabbit Buddy is, because I'm honestlystuck on it.

Welcome to the forum! I was unable toaccess the forum. Taiwan has a number of local strains ofrabbits as well as many mixed breeds, so we may not be able to identifya particular breed, but would love to see photos!

Thanks for your quick reply. I hopethat you are able to view the website. There are some prettygood pictures of the rabbits and it's done in a comicbook stylepresentation. I don't have a clue how Sofia did it, but Ireally dig it.

Welcome! They are very cute little guys you havethere! The comments on the pictures are funny. I am guessing lionlopand netherland dwarf.

We would love to hear and see more about them! Check out our blog section.

Welcome to Rabbits Only.

Aw, Skids is soyoung. Four weeks is too young to be taken from his mother. How's he doing?

They're both adorable.

Are you certain of their sexes? Rabbits can reproduce at avery young age. You may want to have a vet check them foryou.

Bathing rabbits is not advised. It removes necessary oils in their skin and can be stressful.

There's a lot of useful information in our Library section:

I was just able to access the photos - very cute!

I agree with Binkies on the breeds - chinchilla colored Netherland Dwarf and tortoise color Lionhead Lop.

It seems I found the right forum forrabbits. Thanks for satisfying my curiousity about Skid's andBuddy's background.

I think Skids really is a bit young. I try to hold onto him alot, and I try to get the two bunnies to socialize. I putthem together when I see one of them sitting off on their own for anylength of time. I think Skids likes thinking of Buddy as anolder brother of sorts. I don't think Buddy minds, andsometimes he will sit with Skids as well.

We did the bath at the behest of the vet. He is a rabbitspecialist, so we trusted that he knew his business. The vetpulled a few strands of hair from Skids, and put it under a microscopeattached to an overhead TV. The display showed a very activelouse parasite. Both bunnies were covered with them, so he gave us atype of shampoo to take care of them. We are also giving them.5 cc, twice a day, of a pink medicine for deworming them that thebunnies love. We typically use a dry shampoo that we sprinkleon the bunnies while we brush them. We are trying to doeverything right, but as it is my first time to keep rabbits I am upfor listening to advice from others. It is very easy to gettaken into by them, both of them are very happy and loving rabbits.
