oliver is my first rabbit that i have had that hasnt been nuetered that saying He mounts EVERYTHING including stuffed animals and he sprays me constanly so this is a thing that needs to get done. but at what age?
Another question i have is does it change their personality? he is such a sweet little thing and i am also scared of the stress it will cause. And last question i have (sorry question overload) is how do i find the right vet to do this? because this is my baby we are talking about... we also saw flyers that the local shelter would do it for a small fee? is this a bad idea?

Thank you! sorry for the question overload just nervous about my poor sweet baby

thank you guys! so we did our research and around where we live they just charge way too much $440 and up! is this in the normal price range? whereas the local shelter does it for $45 dollars? does the price jump matter i mean we do want whats best for our baby boy but 440 just isnt in our price range right now...

A lot of exotic vets will include a one-price package including pre-op physical, overnight stay with hand-feeding (as necessary), Critical Care and full compliment of pain meds. That said, $440 sounds VERY high for a neuter. My last neuter was $250 for everything, and mine is a very well-respected exotic vet specialist.

I was a nervous wreck with the boys too. I think we paid $285 for both of them. mine were spraying everywhere and were a mess. neutering was the best thing ever. no mess and they became soooo much sweeter. boys recover so much quicker. 3 days, they were totally back to normal!! best wishes!!!

I like the idea of having the shelter do it as the other place quoted you a price that was probably too high. That combined with the extra experience the shelter vets have from doing tons of the procedure make me say shelter vet. However, sometimes you have to meet certain income guidelines, and you may want to be sure that there will be enough staff on hand to keep an eye on him during waking up from surgery. The medical wings at shelters are pretty hectic places. I have been part of a high volume low cost spay/neuter clinic for cats before as a volunteer and it had a great success rate and I would have trusted them with my animals. The shelter also may not give you take-home meds or offer that as an option. I would definitely ask, even though it's "just a neuter". I think they help get the buns eating again after surgery, which is really critical.

Thank you guys so much! We are still researching around to obviously get the best for our babe but we will def let you guys know what route we go! Please pray for us and my little baby!

Jaz, I actually just recently went through this. I had a bunny prior to the two I own right now, his name was Jake, and I never got him fixed, he lived a long healthy life, even though I never fed him any veggies, and only gave hay as treats. Let me explain something here - I was only 11 or 12 when I got him, and he was about 13 to 14 when he passed away this past August. Once he passed I wasn't even planning on getting another bun.. not anytime soon anyways. Then, I was browsing on craigslist, and long story short, I ended up with my lion head boy Tucker.. I was planning on getting him neutered but wasn't in any rush. He never mounted or sprayed, thankfully, but as I was browsing through craigslist I found another bunny I just had to rescue, and it was another male. I knew I had to get them both neutered, so it kind of put me in high gear to get them neutered a little sooner so that I could get them bonded faster. d:

Anyways, around here the price for getting a bunny neutered was very high, like my estimate I got was $377.. and it was ALL close to 400, and it was heartbreaking - because, as you, 400 to get a bunny neutered just isn't in my budget right now. (Before anyone starts talking about "Bunnies are money" and "you need to make sure you can take care of them financially" I understand this - and I have money saved in my savings account for ALL of my animals incase they get sick and/or injured.) I was browsing, and I actually emailed all the shelters around my area to see what they had to offer, etc. Turns out the rescue I foster kitties for was able to get me a great deal, but I basically had to pretend that I was a foster mom to two rescued bunnies, and that was it.. so it was hard to take a back seat to it, but I'm glad I did.. I got it done for $70 each bunny [: & they're FINE. This was just this past friday.. april 26th, and of course I was a huge wreck the whole day!!! But they made it out fine, and did NOT have any pain meds taken home with me, and they are eating and back to their normal selves.... and still making a mess of their cages! haha.

Anyways - whatever you choose to do, will be the right thing for your bun, and I wish you all the luck. xoxo

@ tucker! thank you so much for that post made me feel 100% better ! seriously I am a wreck and I haven't even took my poor guy in! lol and i did call the local shelter and they charge $45. for a nueter however they said they usually don't nueter until the rabbit is 6 months of age, but my buns little men are down there so i was wondering if we should wait or go ahead and do it.. i just don't want the bad habits to stay, but i also don't want to harm my bun.. does anyone know what i should do? they will take him,but i guess as a caution they warned me??

Let me think about this... My Tucker was about 9 weeks on Feb. 3rd... Which I guess would've made him about only 4 months or so when he got neutered this past friday. & everything went fine and dandy [:
