knee dislocated

hi there, would like to have some info abt this .

My loop fell down this morn, doc say she dislocated her left knee but he fixed it back in place.. but when we reach home while she was lying flat with both leg fully scretch out and when she return to normal position she dislocated it again!!! need a visit to the vet again

Anyone with similar problems , how to make it strong again ?? very stress up costhe kneeseem so easily dislocated ray:.Thanks

Pippa, our Yorkshire terrier, has this condition too, however a very mild form. We'll need to monitor over the years, and maybe treatment in the future will be necessary . Needless to say, we haven't bred from her- we spayed her the next week, as it can be genetic.

hi there , back from the vet and got her knee bandage up to prevent it happenagain will need to review in a week time..ray:

my vet is a bone surgeon but not arabbit savvy vet so this is the first timehe encounted this problem for a rabbit, he need more infomation in this area.. Medially Luxating Patella ( trumatic ) will be very glad if anyone can give us more info cos my rabbit may need surgery if it doesnt improved. Thanks

Hi, I was able to find this article on elbow luxation in rabbits. It's clearly written for a vet:

I have not found any other things on this condition. The article above probably describes luxation of the joint in one of the forelegs, not a hindleg, but I can't be sure.

It is fine for a bone surgeon to do the surgery as it shouldn't be much different in rabbits than in other animals of the same size. However, anesthesia will be quite different and aftercare will also be different. In a dog or cat, antibiotics and steroids might be part of the aftercare. A rabbit shouldn't have these, and pain medication might need to be stronger. I would think narcotic pain meds should definitely be included.

Most bunnies will remove their bandages and collars don't work very well with them.
