Injured back leg - spinning in circles

Winston had his first laser therapy treatment last night at Littleton Animal Hospital in Littleton, MA. We met with Dr. Victoria Papscoe who did an exam and talked to me about options. She said that they also do acupuncture, and that it's great when they're treating a lot of different areas...

Injured back leg - spinning in circles

Last night I changed out Winston's litter setup to a low tray, and covered it with a side table so that he feels protected when he uses it. We have a mat underneath with a rubber backing to protect the floor in case he pees over the edge. (The tray is just a small dog crate tray, covered with...

Injured back leg - spinning in circles

Thanks for all of the tips! I'm pretty sure the medication was meloxicam, but honestly it's been a whirlwind and I'd have to double check. Winston is a flemish giant at about 16 pounds, so I assume that's why the dosage was higher. And maybe slightly higher than "normal" due to the fusion of...

Injured back leg - spinning in circles

So Winston has a fused vertebrae or sacralization of the lumbar vertebrae. He doesn't seem to be in any pain, but he's losing feeling in his back leg and is having a hard time keeping his hips straight (he tends to twist to one side). We're looking into our options. We were told that we could...

I'll try to post a link to a video. Having a hard time getting it to work.

Injured back leg - spinning in circles

A week or two ago I thought Winston was hopping funny. I brought him out to the back yard so I could watch him hop over a longer distance, and he seemed fine. Lately he hasn't been moving around much, though. And tonight when I got home he starting spinning in circles as he tried to get up...

Does your extended family approve/disapprove of your rabbits?

When I got my Flemish Giant (Winston), my Dad told me it was the "most irrational thing" I had ever done in my 25 years. My parents didn't get it, but they've come around on Winston. I think they still think things would be easier if I had just gotten a cat, but I wanted a (big) bunny and they...

Tooth growing at an angle - malocclusion. Remove or trim?

I called my local vet yesterday, and they told me to make sure he was eating even if it was mostly sugar. They thought forcing him mushed up pellets would be too stressful. Today I went to a more bunny-savvy vet who is doing the dental work, and they said the opposite! I should have force fed...

Tooth growing at an angle - malocclusion. Remove or trim?

Our appointment is tomorrow, but Winston is hardly eating anything at this point. He still runs over to eat some apple or a dried cranberry (treats for taking his eye drops), but he's hardly eating any pellets, greens, or hay since Monday. I don't want to just give him sugar, but right now it...

Tooth growing at an angle - malocclusion. Remove or trim?

Thanks for all the info! I've been wondering if a trim or two might do the trick. Hoping. My vet isn't an expert on teeth which is why she's sending me to another one for a consultation on Wednesday. I'll ask all of these questions and make sure that they check the molars. I would love to...

Tooth growing at an angle - malocclusion. Remove or trim?

My vet didn't look at his molars. They recommended another vet that is doing the consultation next week. I assume they will look at all of his teeth and maybe take an xray, but I'll find out when I get there. I'll be sure to ask them about the molars. My vet thought it looked like he had...

Tooth growing at an angle - malocclusion. Remove or trim?

How much did you end up spending? I have a consultation next week (that alone is costing me $100) to determine how much they need to do and what it'll cost. If it's outrageous I'll call around to a few places. I just want to make sure that whoever does it is experienced with it and not just...

Tooth growing at an angle - malocclusion. Remove or trim?

I have a 6 year old Flemish Giant named Winston. He's neutered and generally healthy. I brought him in for an eye infection, and the vet found that in addition to his eye problem, one of his top front incisors is growing at an angle. Because of this, Winston isn't able to keep it trimmed...

Litter trained but peeing on the floor

Keep in mind that Winston is 18+ pounds (Flemish Giant). Could that have anything to do with the potential dog-dose? Multiple vets at this clinic own rabbits of their own, and this is where Winston was neutered. They've generally seemed very knowledgeable until now. Does anyone have a link...

Litter trained but peeing on the floor

Fruit flavored? That would be nice. My vet doesn't seem to know anything about it and I'd rather not drop another $60 at this point for duplicate meds. Definitely pisses me off that they wouldn't have thought that the beef flavor would be a problem. So far he has shown no sign of slowing...

Litter trained but peeing on the floor

What should I look for in case he starts to react to the antibiotics? My vet didn't mention that as a concern.

Litter trained but peeing on the floor

The pills (Baytril) have been a real pain, especially because they are BEEF flavored! I couldn't believe it when I found out. No wonder he hates it so much. It's not easy, but I've found a way to get him the medicine. I crush the pill into a fine powder and then mix with cranberry juice...

Litter trained but peeing on the floor

Winston had an x-ray yesterday to check for crystals in his bladder. Thankfully, that came back totally normal. So no surgery required - yay! His urine was sent out and they found blood in it so he does have an infection. So we'll be doing antibiotics twice a day for 2 weeks. Anyone have...
